Testing requirements for promotion to 7th Geup High Yellow Belt
Patterns
A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of the pattern
As well as a demonstration of basic physical proficiency and
understanding of all patterns, and pattern exercises learned at previous
belt ranks has been maintained.
Step Sparring
Kicks
A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of the
following kicks with both the left and right leg;
- Side Turning Kick (lead leg, lead leg in a stepping motion)
- Side Rising Kick (lead leg, rear leg, lead leg in a stepping motion)
- Back Piercing Kick
- Skip Side Front Kick
- Skip Side Piercing Kick
- Double Kicks
- Flying Front Kick (from a Walking Stance)
- Two Consecutive Kicks (different kicks - same direction)
as well as a demonstration that the knowledge and physical proficiency of all
kicks learned at previous belt ranks has been maintained.
Techniques
A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of the following
techniques;
- L-Ready Stance
(Ni-eun-ja Jun-bi
Seo-gi)
- Walking Stance High Front Punch with the Forefist (obverse)
- Walking Stance Rising Block with the Outer Forearm (obverse)
- L-Stance Middle Guarding Block with the Knifehand
- L-Stance Block with a Twin Forearm
- L-Stance Side Strike with the Knifehand (reverse - outward)
- Continuous Motion from a Walking Stance - low Side Block with the
Outer Forearm (obverse - outward), and Rising Block with the
Outer Forearm (obverse)
Ho-Sin-Sul (Self Defense)
A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of the following
Ho-Sin-Sul (Self Defense) techniques on both your left and right side;
- A basic understanding of low section pressure points
- A basic understanding of high section pressure points
- At least two release defenses against a double-handed choke from the front
- At least two joint attack defenses against a single straight grab to the wrist
- At least two joint attack defenses against a single cross grab to the wrist
- At least two joint attack defenses against a double grab to the wrists
- At least two joint attack defenses against a double-handed choke from the front
- Shoulder rolls to both the right and left sides from a kneeling
position - landing with a break fall
- Falling backward to the right and left sides from a squatting
position - landing with a break fall
as well as a demonstration that the knowledge and physical proficiency of all
Ho-Sin-Sul techniques learned at previous belt ranks has been maintained.
Breaking
A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of both power
and technique breaks on 1" pine boards. These will include several specific
hand and foot technique breaking requirements for 7th Geup High Yellow Belt,
as well as some from previous rank level breaking requirements. Breaks will
be selected by the testing candidate and/or specified by the test board.
- Technique - 1" pine boards
- Power - 1" pine boards
Knowledge
Passing the 7th Geup Written Test within two weeks of testing. This test will
cover the required knowledge learned at all previous belt ranks as well as the
following
7th Geup knowledge requirements;
Training Expectations
Training expectations for the Chang Hon Kwan Taekwon-Do class are as follows:
- Active workouts in approximately 7-8 classes/month for at least 12 weeks
at an 8th Geup Yellow Belt level
- Active workouts in approximately 7 classes in the three weeks just prior
to the next testing
- Students work out on their own outside of class on an average of
three-and-a-half hours/week during this time.
Tournament competition
Although Tournament sparring competition is optional during this testing cycle,
you should attend a tournament to observe sparring competition and you should
compete in both Patterns and Sparring at this level.
Rank Promotion Testing
The actual requirements
AT testing for 7th Geup High Yellow Belt
will consist of a physical test and an oral examination. The physical test will
consist of a demonstration of the pattern
Dan-Gun, as
well as random elements of Taekwon-Do selected by the test board. These random
elements will be selected to include requirements learned at this level
(listed above), as well as some elements from previous belt rank testings. The
oral examination will consist of random questions covering required knowledge
learned at this and all previous belt ranks.
