Practice Level
This pattern is practiced by the 5th Dan Black Belt
in preparation for their testing for 6th Dan Black Belt

Korean Pronunciation:

        Se-Jong teul

Pattern History: Se-Jong  [世宗] is named after the greatest Korean King, Se-Jong, who invented the Korean alphabet (han-geul) in 1443, and he was also a noted meteorologist.  The pattern diagram is in the shape of the Chinese character () for king, representing King Se-Jong, while the 24 movements refer to the 24 letters of the Korean alphabet.

Number of Movements:  24

Pattern Diagram:

Se-Jong

Step-by-Step Description of Movements:

The pattern begins when the instructor commands the student to come to attention (cha-ryeot).  When given this command, assume an Attention Stance on the X on the AB line, facing D.  This is followed by the instructor stating the pattern that the student will perform (Se-Jong teul).

On the command to assume the ready position (jun-bi), move the left foot to B to form a Close Ready Stance type B toward D.  Remain in this close ready stance type B toward D until given the command to begin the pattern.

When the command to begin the pattern is given (si-jak), perform the following individual movements in sequence.  The
pattern should be performed according to the Guidelines listed in General Choi Hong Hi's Encyclopedia of Taekwon-Do, and presented in the section on essential points in performing patterns.

1.    Move the left foot to B to form a left walking stance toward B, while executing (half facing)
a low block to B with the left outer forearm.

2.    Bring the ball of the left foot to the side of the right foot, then move the right foot to A to form
a left L-stance toward A, while executing (half facing) a twin forearm block.

3.    Pivoting on the ball of the left foot, execute a middle side piercing kick to D with the right
             footsword.  At the same time,
execute a side high punch to D with the right forefist.

while executing (half facing) a high block to C with the left double forearm.

Perform this move in jumping motion.

15.
Move the right foot to F to form a sitting stance toward C, while extending
(full facing) the right fist horizontally to C.

while executing (full facing) a high side front strike to C with the right back fist, striking
the left finger belly with the right back forearm.

22.   Lower the left foot to C, turning clockwise to form a right fixed stance toward D, while
