Korean Pronunciation: Eul-Ji teul Pattern History: Eul-Ji [乙支] is named
after general Eulji Mundeok who successfully defended Korea against the Tang's invasion force of nearly one million
soldiers led by Yang Je in 612 A.D. Eul-Ji, employing hit and run guerilla tactics, was able to decimate a large percentage
of the force. The diagram is in the shape of the Chinese character (乙) which represents his surname. The 42 movements represent age
the of General Choi Hong-Hi when he designed the pattern.
Number of Movements: 42 Pattern Diagram:

Step-by-Step Description of Movements:
The pattern begins when the instructor commands the student to come to attention (cha-ryeot). When given this command, assume an Attention Stance on the X on the EF line, facing D. This is followed by the instructor stating the pattern that the student will
perform (Eul-Ji teul).
On the command to assume the ready position (jun-bi), move the left foot to B to form a Parallel Stance with an X-Backhand toward D. Remain in this parallel stance with an X-backhand toward D until given the command to begin
the pattern.
When the command to begin the pattern is given (si-jak), perform the following individual movements in sequence. The pattern should be
performed according to the Guidelines listed in General Choi Hong Hi's Encyclopedia of Taekwon-Do, and presented in the section on
essential points
in performing patterns.
