Testing requirements for promotion to 8th Geup Low Yellow Belt
Patterns
A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of the pattern:
As well as a demonstration that the knowledge and physical proficiency of all patterns, and pattern exercises learned at
previous belt ranks have been maintained.
Step Sparring
A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of:
Beginning Three-Step-Sparring format
As well as a demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of all
step-sparring formats learned at previous belt ranks has been maintained.
Kicks
A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of the following
kicks with both the left and right leg;
- Stamping Kick
- Front Rising Kick (lead leg, lead leg in a stepping motion from a Walking Stance)
- Side Front Kick (lead leg, rear leg, lead leg in a stepping motion)
- Side Piercing Kick (lead leg, rear leg, lead leg in a stepping motion)
- Side Turning Kick (rear leg)
- Two Combination Kicks (different kicks - same direction)
as well as a demonstration that the knowledge and physical proficiency of all kicks
learned at previous belt ranks has been maintained.
Techniques
A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of the following techniques;
- L-Stance (Ni-eun-ja Seo-gi)
- Walking Stance middle Front Punch with the Forefist (reverse)
- L-Stance middle Guarding Block with the Outer Forearm
- L-Stance middle Side Block with an Inner Forearm (reverse - outward)
Ho-Sin-Sul (Self Defense)
A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of the following
Ho-Sin-Sul (Self Defense) techniques on both your left and right side;
- At least two release defenses against a single-handed grab to the lapel
- At least two release defenses against a double-handed grab to the lapels
- At least two joint attack defenses against a single-grab to the lapel
- At least two joint attack defenses against a double-handed grab to the lapels
- At least one single-handed choke attack from the front
- At least one double-handed choke attack from the front
- At least one single-handed choke attack from the rear
- At least one double-handed choke attack from the rear
- Shoulder rolls to both the right and left sides from a kneeling position - coming up in a kneeling position
- Falling to the back from a squatting position - landing with a break fall
- Falling to the front from a kneeling position with the thighs vertical - landing with a break fall
as well as a demonstration that the knowledge and physical proficiency of all Ho-Sin-Sul techniques learned at previous belt ranks has been maintained.
Breaking
A demonstration of basic physical proficiency and understanding of
both power and technique breaks on 1" pine boards. These will
include several specific hand and foot technique
breaking requirements for 8th Geup Low Yellow Belt,
as well as some from previous rank level breaking requirements.
Breaks will be selected by the testing candidate and/or specified by the test board.
Knowledge
Passing the 8th Geup Written Test within two weeks of testing. This test will
cover the required knowledge learned at all previous belt ranks as well as
the following
8th Geup knowledge requirements.
Training Expectations
Training expectations for the Chang Hon Kwan Taekwon-Do class are as follows:
- Active workouts in approximately 7-8 classes/month for at least 12 weeks at a 9th Geup High White Belt level;
- Active workouts in approximately 7 classes in the three weeks just prior to the next testing; and
- Students work out on their own outside of class on an average of three hours/week during this time.
Tournament competition
Although Tournament sparring competition is optional during this testing cycle,
you should attend a tournament to observe sparring competition and you should
compete in patterns competition at this level.
Rank Promotion Testing
The actual requirements
AT testing for 8th Geup Low Yellow Belt will consist of a
physical test and an oral examination. The physical test will consist of a
demonstration of the pattern
Cheon-Ji, as well as random
elements of Taekwon-Do selected by the test board. These random elements will be
selected to include requirements learned at this level (listed above), as well as
some elements from the previous belt rank testing. The oral examination will
consist of random questions covering required knowledge learned at this, and the
previous belt rank.
